More European to American translations

The replacement for the European Vectra, the Insignia

The American equivalent, Buick Regal

GM got rid of the aptly named OldsMobile but I still have a hard time thinking of anyone younger than 90 driving a Buick. Perhaps they should stop renaming cars from sister non-domestic companies in favor of car names known and loved only by those who will soon forget their own names. GM, I would rather buy a Vauxhall or Opel than a Buick for no other reason than the fear of ridicule by my peers, (or anyone young enough not to have remembered the Truman administration). Besides I like the Vauxhall grill better.

2012 Astra
Now, we got the last Astra as a Saturn. With their demise, will we get this one? It would be a shame if we didn't. This could be one of the best looking Chevrolets in a long time. Or maybe we call it a Vauxhall or Opel?

Here's what really chaps my ass. We don't get some models of sister car companies from Europe but Europe gets 2 versions of the same car...

Opel Ampera
and Chevy Volt
will be competing head to head in Europe. And WHY does the European version always look better?!?!
Thanks again GM for the slap in the face!!!

Rally America Championship being fought over by Mitsu's and Subi's

Hey Ford,

Me again. Congrats on the Global Rally-Cross championship thing. I was just reading some web content on my favorite sport, rally racing. I see you started your company in America. You know there's a rally series America too. Oh yah, you're helping Mr. VanWay in that series (no turbo and no AWD but at least your trying).
Hey, I have an idea... Why not get some more of those AWD Fiesta terrors over here to stomp the crap out of the competition here in America and help yourself sell more cars. Better yet, why not offer an AWD and or turbo version of that fiesta here so that Ford fans / racing teams like me (who so desperately want both )can do some stomping for you. You wouldn't be out all that extra money. Wadda ya say?!?!

Yours Truley,
Gimme Afukin AWDalready

Pinto Stampede comes to K.C.

The stampede stopped at the Kansas Speed way on their way to Carlisle, PA. They did a few laps and chatted it up with the few who came out to wish them well on the journey. Darren & I talked to Charles Pitts who was making the trip from Woodland Hills, CA. He gave us a tour of his '71 Lotus powered road racer. Very cool Pinto.

Have fun fellas.

New Ford RS Cosworth 4x4 cars?

New Ford RS Cosworth 4x4 cars....better late than never!

Now on the Cosworth and CosworthUSA web sites, there are much many spare parts for Mitsubishi and Subaru than for Ford (this is really sad for all Ford's RS Cosworth fans!),…gosh, why did it happen? Ford has a very great tradition of providing exciting performance versions of its compact and small cars. Such the big tradition of the Ford-Cosworth cars! I do know and you, Ford's current people, do you know?

These days the Rally-Sport cars which win rally and rallycross races (WRC, PWRC, Rally America, X Games, Super Production and so on), they have 4WD/AWD not FWD, not a front-wheel drive car like the MK2 Focus RS at all.

In reality, if the Ford's customer would insist on all-wheel drive, he will go to buy Subaru, Mitsubishi or VW. A lot consumers today want B-, C-, D-segment cars with all-wheel drive, Ford should sell this if they are willing to listen to what costumers want.

Why can't be all-wheel drive like an option used in the global Fiesta?
Why can't be all-wheel drive like an option used in the global new Focus?

I'm hoping to see the RS Cosworth 4x4 badge on Ford's cars like the current Fiesta and the new Focus in the future! This badge is a very important part of Ford's DNA.

Unfortunately, in fact, Ford should have put an all-wheel drive option for these cars on the global market at least nine years ago. But though the new AWD RS might be late to the party, it's patently the most desirable guest.

Would you like to Ford will produce the new RS Cosworth cars with all-wheel drive? If yes, so vote directly on Ford's oficial website for these ideas:

Is this the new Escape?

We're not the first to break it but the pics are compelling. This is the Current model Kuga sold in Europe.
And this is the Vertrek concept from Ford U.S.
Yep. Europe got it first... Again!
Currently the Kuga is sold with either a 2.5 in line 5 (Volvo) or a 2.0 Diesel.

I think we will get a few more choices but I'm willing to bet we won't get the diesel even though they would likely sell well in the U.S.

Clarkson's Car Years - Ford Escort RS Cosworth Buttertub's

Ya why doesn't ford make stuff like this today?

Transmission you need to make your Yard Dart an AWD

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ford_transmissions
The ones you want are the MTX75 or CD4E for the Zetec and 6F35 for Duratec. I believe there was an AWD F4EAT before these that was mated to a Zetec. Most of these can be found in the Ford Escape. We are currently watching www.Copart.com for a nicely rear-ended example to purchase though "Shaman" thinks he might have located an '06 a little closer to home. As soon as we get our hands on one, we'll do a full "how-to" with pix of the drive-train swap into an Escort with a Zetec.

Rally in Europe!!!

Here is some awesome performance driving that could never take place here in the states quit like it does in other parts of the world. Americans would shit themselves if this was ever allowed to happen anywhere near a town with more than 5 residents.

See if you can count how many cars we don't get here as well. I came up with MOST OF THEM!!!

More cars we've seen at auctions

These are some of the wrecks we've seen go through various insurance auctions. Some are worth a second look...

Auction bargains

Hey you guys up there in Milwaukee! here's one going through the Milwaukee Auction on 4/20. Looks like a cheap fixer;)

But seriously, if anybody is looking for Focus' Escorts or anything else and want to know when one is headed to a Manheim auction near you, post a comment and we can let you know how to get it.

IMSA back in the day.

This is cool. I especially like the race results page (lonely Ford surrounded by the dominating 935 "Slant-Nose" of the era).

South America's Offerings

So Brazil beat Germany last month as having the most visits to this blog. We've known for years that Central and South America got some cool stuff we never had the chance to get our hands on (Including, most recently the Focus RS and as far back as the Mk I Escort). I Googled "Fiesta Brazil" and this was what popped up.

It looks a lot like out Focus circa 2011 with a different face. What do you think?

The article said this is the 2011 model Fiesta. Anyway, thanks to our kin down south for stoppin' in.

It's nice to know Ford isn't just denying us the goods from across the Atlantic...

3 Doors or 5?

I know I keep harping on about this but I just keep seeing pics of the Fiesta 3 door and I keep getting a little pissed. It may not be a huge difference but it is lighter, more rigid and (with a shorter wheel base) more nimble than or only option, the 5 door. You tell me.

Granted the 5 door beat the 3 door at the latest round of the G.R.C. (as seen in the following video),
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KPhfRgGPwc&feature=player_embedded
but as any good MotoCross rider will tell you "the hole shot is everything". Of course, being a two-time World Rally Champion helps too. I'm just saying, When the hell are we getting the 3 door. Even Tanner's car looks better

100 Acre Wood Rally revisited...

100 AW Day 1

Ok, so we got down to the 100 Acre Wood and the Escorts were immediatly a hit, we pulled into the local "Wally Mart" parking lot in Salem and we were engulfed by a bunch that were Lovin old Escorts and sharing their memories of their old cars. We went to another stop and were again swarmed by Ford fans, showing us the need for repair parts and the purpose of our mission for these classic rally heritage vehicles. Here are some shots of them on Friday.

Have our prayers been answered.

This article is from March of last year but it still makes me hopeful. Now I feel bad for ripping up the Guys at Ford via FaceBook. Sorry Ford Guys! You think they can hear me from here? It's a good thing I don't live in Detroit. That poor Schmuck behind the wheel is probably thinking, "Man it's cool being an engineer at Ford. I think I'll take the project car down to BK for a Whopper. What a wonderful day", not knowing that I'm hiding in the bushes at the first stop light. Next thing he knows, he's waking up by the side of the road wondering what he's going to do with the rest of his life as he will have lots of free time and I will have the only 3-door turbo Fiesta in America! MWAAHAHAHAHA!.........Tickets to Detroit are pretty cheap this time of year, aren't they?

100 Acre Wood Rally in 2 Days!

I'm out in CO. working some tire deals while Darren and the boys do final prep on 2 Escorts that will be our spectator area interceptors again. Unfortunately, we ran out of time again to compete. Not that we were serious about getting in this year as we knew it would be a long shot. Both cars have a long way to go but they will be a lot of fun in between stages. We will be loaded down with some primo spectator gear like aluminum ladders and scaffolding not to mention still and video cameras. We will post as often as possible with links here and face book. Stay tuned!

Is that Ken Block? 100 Acre Wood 2010. Not sure how we got on this road.

No sound but still very interesting. This is what you get when you strap a web cam to your 87 Escort. We'll be armed with a few more cameras this year (with working sound).
